3 Team Building Activities for Students Outside

Team building activities for students outside increase involvement and enjoyment of the participants. Along the way, valuable skills are picked up. Discussed below are 3 interesting team building activities.

Box fort: This is an activity suitable for a group of eight to ten. About ten to twenty cardboard cartons are needed as props.

Blindfold the team members. Place the boxes near them. Their task is to build a wall around the group using the cardboard boxes.

The wall needs to be only one box high, but should encircle the group completely. Allot a time of two or three minutes for this activity.

The wall should not have any gaps big enough for a hand to pass through. This game brings out the leaders and promotes cooperation among the team members.

Obstacle course: Create teams of two individuals each. Demarcate an obstacle course in a play ground or other outdoor area.

One person from each team is blindfolded. The team members are not allowed to touch each other after this. The blindfolded person has to complete the obstacle course depending solely on the instructions of his or her teammate.

Care has to be taken to see that the obstacle course can be maneuvered without accidents. This is a good game for team building, learning to give and follow instructions and learning to trust your team mates.

Balloon race: Each team should have an equal number of players. Arrange pairs of buckets opposite to each other about twenty feet across.

In each bucket at the starting line, place twelve water filled balloons. Each team lines up near a bucket at the starting line.

To play the game, the first person picks up a balloon in his or her mouth, runs to the bucket placed opposite, drops the balloon inside and then returns to the back of the line of his team.

Once the first person has picked up the balloon and started running, the next person in line can do the same. The objective of course is to drop all the balloons into the other bucket in the minimum time. This game builds team spirit and competitive spirit.

These games require only limited resources and provide great fun in addition to being great learning experiences.
